Snowy and chilly out. The bright sun was hiding behind the clouds and had been for a few days now. The weather was terrible. Most people were snuggled up inside their homes and Shi’vali were doing much the same. However there were a few Shi’vali out in this weather. All bored ones. No one was willing to go out hunting or fishing in this kind of weather. And just plain exploring? Pffh, forget it. All you’d see is snow. Snow as far as the eye could possibly see.

Seonmul, the beige-coated Yana, had plopped down at the top of the steps, moping. Across the street was a cheap but quant in that, much to his distress, didn’t allow Shi’vali. It had been all his rider, Shakuhachi, could afford however, so the rider just insisted that Seonmul have fun in the snow for a little, and that he’d make it up to him later. Pork buns, he promised. It was a good deal but it made time feel like it was inching along. He hated being apart from Shakuhachi and didn’t know what else to do besides stare at the building, ready to wait hours and hours for the little rider to stick his head out of the front door.

Marcus, the lashed-striped Yase,  was at the base of the steps. He too had a rider that was in the same inn and like Seonmul, Marcus was trusted to stay warm and entertain himself for a bit while the rider warmed up. Marcus actually did find some amusement. For the longest time Marcus had a small red string tied to one of his front digits. He was fond of it, and waved his paw around, watching the little string dance around. He cocked his head in order to look at its color contrasted on the pure white snow of the road behind him.

Then there was Yuki, a beautiful russian Hinshu, and she was watching Marcus. She was quite possibly the most bored of the three and didn’t really know how to entertain herself on a normal day. The best she could think to do was watch Marcus dangle the string.

Eventually however her boredom got the better of her and she moved down the few steps she was on him until she was down at his level. Hesitantly at first, Yuki reached out to bat at the red string. Marcus was quick to start growling about it and when Yuki didn’t refrain at that much, he jerked his head towards her, jaws open wide, and hissed loudly at her.

Yuki finally hissed and backed up quickly. She followed it quickly with a growl, pinning back her ears before stalking up the steps to join the mellow, mopey Seonmul at the top. She sat down on her haunches with a huff.

Lastly there was Aponi, the jasper Yase. She was not quite so keen on sitting with the motley crew, but she wasn’t too far off from them either. She was sitting on what was a garden in the summertime and watched the three Shi’vali. She was calm, content to just act like she was a watchful pride leader, but once Yuki started scrambling up the steps with a petty hiss Aponi was shaking her head in shame.

She called out to the group with a roar. Enough of this waiting around. It was time for them to go do something.

The others looked up as soon as she bellowed. Yuki got up quick, grunting at Seonmul and then again at Marcus as she passed him going down the steps. She walked with large steps to get through the thick snow on the way to Aponi’s side. Marcus was stubborn to join but eventually even he had to admit his string wasn’t enough to keep his attention and lifted himself up onto all fours.

Seonmul was the most reluctant, whining out to his few friends during these boring, cold hours. Aponi raised her voice again to Seonmul, demanding he come join them. They’d more than likely be back before Seonmul’s rider was out and about again anyways. Seonmul hesitated, but he did end up conceding and standing up as well. He lumbered down the steps and return to the group.

Only once all four were gathered together did the group set out on the lookout for something to do with their time. Aponi insisted, at the very least, that all ideas were on the table and to just go for what they saw. The group could agree or disagree with the idea’s worth.

In spite of being the last to agree to this venture, Seonmul was the first to suggest an idea. He let out a bellow to get their attention before bounding off down the road. The three others followed after him, skidding to a stop when they followed the Yana’s tracks around a corner and into an alleyway.

Seonmul was half way down the alleyway nudging a dumpster’s metal lid open with his nose. He licked his lips and his eyes were bright and glistening. Yuki immediately wretched at the sight of this.

Aponi wasn’t one to indulge in such things on a normal day but she was willing to entertain the idea today. She padded down the lane in order to at least have a whiff at what Seonmul had in mind. It stunk of a restaurant. The food a little old and cold, but there’d be good prizes to be had. The big Yana was already getting his head in and rifling around.

Leaping up onto her hindpaws, Aponi thwapped the lid up and away from Seonmul’s head and she too peered into the dumpster. There was all sorts of stuff lying in there and she gingerly pawed around. When she spotted a perfectly pristine roast chicken, she started clawing it closer to her. Before she took it into her mouth, she looked Yuki and Marcus’ way.

Yuki and Marcus were still in the snowy road, now sitting down. They were both stiff as boards, even in the whipping winds. Obviously they weren’t going to join Aponi and Seonmul on this one.

Aponi flicked her eyes over to Seonmul and gave him a sharp growl. This plan isn’t gonna work.

Still, Aponi grabbed her roast chicken before ditching the dumpster. She strutted back into the street proudly, happy with her dumpster surprise. Seonmul rifled a little longer, stubbornly growling when Marcus growled for him to join them. As far as Yuki and Marcus were concerned, it was fine to only walk around with one dumpster diver, and happily started walking down the street. Aponi lagged behind a little as she tried to eat her chicken while still following after Yuki and Marcus. She grumbled a little when Yuki and Marcus got too far ahead, as if asking them to slow down.

Marcus did just that, slowing down and pinning his ears back. Yuki stomped a few times before stopping dead in her tracks. She hung her head and sighed. They’d barely got through the first idea of the day and they were already this miserable mess. Today was going to be a weird day.
